Janette Hartz-Karp Janette Hartz-Karp

Dr Janette Hartz-Karp is renowned nationally and internationally for her innovative work in community engagement and deliberative democracy. Her current role as Professor of Sustainability, CUSP, involves research into deliberative democracy, teaching deliberative democracy in the Masters in Sustainability Studies, and also designing and implementing innovative deliberative engagement initiatives.

Jeff Kenworthy Jeff Kenworthy

Jeff Kenworthy has spent 28 years in the transport and urban planning field and currently teaches courses and supervises postgraduate students in the city policy and urban sustainability fields. He is co-author (with Peter Newman, Felix Laube and others) of a number of books.

Dora Marinova Dora Marinova

Dora’s involvement and interest in interdisciplinary research started during her PhD studies with the development of a novel method for measuring the effects of R&D investment on economic development. Her background in engineering, mathematics and economics allows her to cross boundaries between social sciences and science research, policy strategies and engineering, demography and community development, university, industry and civil society.

Peter Newman Peter Newman

Peter Newman is the Professor of Sustainability at Curtin University and Director of CUSP which has 60 PhD students working on all aspects of the green economy. Peter is on the Board of Infrastructure Australia that is funding infrastructure for the long term sustainability of Australian cities, and is a Lead Author for Transport on the IPCC. He is a Visiting Professor in the School of Architecture at the National University of Singapore. Peter also is on the Board of Infrastructure Australia that is funding infrastructure for the long term sustainability of Australian cities.

Andrew Simpson Andrew Simpson

Andrew is a Senior Research Fellow at CUSP. He has wide-ranging expertise in sustainable energy and transport systems from over 10 years working in the renewable energy, electric power and hybrid/electric vehicle industries in Australia and the USA - including Tesla Motors in California and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado. He is focused on the deployment of plug-in vehicles, smart grids and renewable energy in sustainable communities.

Laura Stocker Laura Stocker

Laura is a marine ecologist by training. Currently, she researches and teaches in the area of coastal sustainability, climate change policy, sustainability mapping, sustainability education, cultural values of place, and conceptual aspects of sustainability.

Vanessa Rauland Vanessa Rauland

Vanessa is a project manager at CUSP, currently working on an ARC funded Linkage Grant on Decarbonising Cities and Regions. She has a BA in Nature Tourism and MSc in Environment and Resource Management with specialisations in energy and carbon management, particularly as it relates to policy. Her interests include renewable energy, energy efficiency, the built environment, emissions trading and carbon management. She is also undertaking her PhD in the area of sustainable urban development.
